Amid the impending job gloom throughout Scotland with the impending public sector cuts the Highlands have received a major boost by the announcement of Plans to set up and run a computer data centre

The news follows the confirmation last week of government funding for a superfast broadband link in the Highlands.

The private company Avertech based in Thurso will develop the project slowly but expect momentum which will create numerous jobs.

A further shot in the arm should mean that this step will garner further investment as investors are made aware of the attractiveness of Thurso and the North as economic bases. A further benefit brought by the Avertech is its intention to plug into an internet super highway which runs from Caithness to Scandinavia and North America. The area is one of four rural areas in the UK chosen to base a project in which an estimated £20million of public investment matched by the funds of the selected supplier.
