Renewable Energy Jobs

A new study by Scottish Renewables has predicted that around 28,000 new renewable energy jobs can be created and around £7.1 billion of investment generated within the off shore wind farm industry in Scotland.

The report also suggests that this could be Scotland`s greatest economic opportunity for decades with 2 sites also being pinpointed as possible wind farm locations, the Sea of Lewis and the coast around Aberdeenshire.

The renewable energy industry in Scotland currently employs 500 people and it is envisaged that this full employment scenario will arise by 2020.

One of the reports authors, Jenny Hogan from Scottish Renewables has said though that all this good news for Scotland it cannot be taken as a given.

"Other ports around Europe and the UK are all competing tooth and nail to secure investment and the economic benefits that offshore manufacturing and associated activity will bring."
She added,"But none of this can be taken for granted."
