Hospitality Sector Boost

Sunday October 2009, 16:55:57

Scotland will benefit from a new training hotel created by North Highland College UHI.The Burghfield House Training Hotel will celebrate its official opening this week with Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond doing the honours. The opening event will include a three-course lunch and will be attended by members from the college board of management along with senior management and other requested guests. According to the Northern-Times, £7m was spent to turn the old 30-bedroom hotel into a top of its class training facility. The new development created six new jobs and will teach hospitality and professional cooking to 30 students from across the Highlands. The hotel will function as normal, allowing students the opportunity to get hands-on training and experience. The hotel will have six bedrooms available for visitors and have a fully functioning restaurant that can accommodate 40 customers.“The Burghfield House and site development is the first of its kind in Scotland, and our aim is to produce chefs and other professionals who will make their mark on the tourism sector and its vitally important industries for the local, national and UK economy,” college principal, Rosemary Thompson told the Press and Journal.“The college offers a range of training opportunities resulting in professional qualifications from SVQ to higher national level, and has advanced plans for degree courses in Hospitality Management as part of UHI,” she added..
