Tradesmen/Maintenance Staff Positions on Board Cruise Ships
 
Every cruise ship requires 24 hours a day maintenance staff of all descriptions including carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc.  Salaries differ from Cruise Company to Cruise Company, but will be according to age and experience.  It is normally the onshore trade rate.  Tradesmen report to Head of Engineering.
Cruise Ship Motorman: Responsible for the daily maintenance and cleaning of specific engine parts as directed by the Chief Engineer. Experience with minimum one to two years on board ships required. Diploma from accredited maritime training school or facility and good English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Fitter: Responsible for the daily maintenance and cleaning of engines and mechanical equipment as directed by the Chief Engineer. Experience with minimum one to two years on board ships required. Diploma from accredited maritime training school or facility and basic English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Wiper: Trash pick up in engine room, tool pick up, general cleaning and painting of engine room). Entry level position, basic English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Chief Electrician: Responsible for the entire electrical system on board the ship. Extensive experience with minimum two to five years in subordinate positions on board ships required. Diploma from accredited maritime training school or facility and fluent English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Electrician:  Responsible for the proper maintenance and repairs of the electrical system on board as directed by the Chief Electrician. Extensive experience with minimum one to three years on board ships required. Diploma from accredited maritime training school or facility and good English Language skills required.  Possibilities for promotion to Chief Electrician
Chief Air Conditioning Technician: Responsible for the maintenance, repairs and supervision of all air conditioning and refrigeration systems as directed by the Chief Engineer. Extensive experience with minimum two to four years in subordinate positions on board ships required. Diploma from accredited maritime training school or facility and fluent English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Air Conditioning Technician:  Responsible for the maintenance, repairs and supervision of all air conditioning and refrigeration systems as directed by the Chief Air Conditioning Technician. Extensive experience with minimum two to four years in subordinate positions on board ships required. Diploma from accredited maritime training school or facility and good English Language skills required.  Possibilities for promotion to Chief Air Conditioning Technician. 
Cruise Ship Plumber: Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all plumbing.  Experience with minimum one to two years on board ships required. Basic English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Upholsterer: Re-upholstering of all furniture as required. Entry level position, basic English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Fireman:  Responsible for safety and fire fighting on board the ship. Fire fighting certificate and basic English Language skills required.
Cruise Ship Bosun:  Responsible for supervising general maintenance of assigned stations, assist in tender operations as directed buy the Safety Officer.  Experience with one to two years on board ships required.  Good English language skills required.
Cruise Ship Carpenter: Responsible for all carpentry and woodwork on board.  Skilled carpentry experience in related background field required.  Entry level position.  Basic English language skills required.
Cruise Ship Seaman: Responsible for cleaning, painting, general maintenance of the vessel.  Entry level position.  Basic knowledge of  English language required.
Cruise Ship Deck Attendant: Responsible for keeping the open decks in order – chairs etc.  No experience required. Basic knowledge of English Language required.
All maintenance is done on board at sea and with the massive number of passenger on board ships there is always maintenance required.
Contracts are normally for 6/7 months on and six weeks off.   Contracts are renewable.
Over the next few years there is a minimum of 40 ships being put into service so there will be a demand for maintenance staff
